Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

Since 2011, Kempner Monuments has guided Central Texas families through every step of the memorial process. These are the questions families ask most often — and if yours isn’t here, Paul and his staff are always glad to help.

Will I approve the design before manufacturing begins?
Yes — always. We will not begin making your monument until you have reviewed and approved the final design. Nothing moves forward without your say-so.

Can I change my order after I have approved the final design?
Possibly — and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. If manufacturing has not yet begun, or has not progressed too far, we will incorporate your requested changes. If work is already too far along to reverse, we will tell you honestly before any further steps are taken.

Do you paint the inside of the letters to make them more readable?
We use professional dye, not paint — dye bonds more deeply and lasts far longer. Grey markers receive black lettering; black markers receive light gray or white lettering for clear, lasting contrast.

Do you set the stone in the cemetery?
Yes, cemetery setting is included in your price throughout Central Texas. And if the marker ever shifts due to ground movement over the years, we will come back and re-set it at no additional charge.

When the stone is paid for, what exactly does that include?
Everything shown in the final design you approved: the stone itself, all artwork, all lettering, and cemetery setting within Central Texas. There are no per-letter or per-design surcharges. What you see on your approved sketch is what you pay for.

Can you match a granite base to an existing monument?
We will find the closest match available. Granite color can vary even within the same quarry, but we will choose a stone that sits harmoniously alongside your existing monument.

Do you contact the cemetery to confirm my monument meets their requirements?
Yes, we handle all of that for you. We contact the cemetery directly to confirm your chosen monument meets every restriction they have, including any rules about setting. Manufacturing does not begin until we have that confirmation in hand.

Can the cemetery refuse the headstone that I purchased?
No. As long as the headstone meets the cemetery's requirements — which we verify before manufacturing begins — they are legally bound to accept it.

Do you accommodate rush orders?
Yes. Please call us as soon as possible so we can assess your timeline and let you know what is achievable. Rush orders may carry additional charges, and we will be upfront about any costs before proceeding.

I need my monument placed in another state — can you do that?
We deliver monuments throughout the Continental United States. Cemetery setting is included only within Central Texas, but for locations outside our area we will help you find a qualified local professional to handle the placement. Any charges from that company would be separate.

Can I order a custom-size monument?
Yes. Custom sizes and colors are available. Call Paul at 512-932-8000 for details, and we will confirm that your chosen dimensions comply with the cemetery's requirements.

Do flat (flush-to-the-ground) monuments require a base?
No base is required for flat markers, though we will verify the specific cemetery's restrictions to make sure your chosen style is permitted.

Can I add a photograph to the monument?
Yes. We offer several photo-mounting options so you can choose the approach that best suits the memorial you have in mind.

Do bronze headstones require a stone base?
Yes, bronze markers need a base — granite is the most common choice. We will also verify that the combination meets your cemetery's requirements.

What is an epitaph?
"Rest in peace" is perhaps the most recognized, but an epitaph can be any short phrase or verse that honors your loved one\'s life and character. Epitaphs can be added to most monument designs, and we are happy to help you find the right words.

How is the granite marker personalized?
You choose the artwork and text, and we create a detailed sketch for your approval. Once approved, your design is deeply sandblasted into the granite, then finished with professional dye for lasting color. Grey markers are finished in black; black markers in light gray or white. Every step happens with your prior approval.

Do you make monuments for pets?
Absolutely. Pet memorials are crafted with the same care and the same process as every other monument we make. Every life deserves to be remembered.
